2004/2005 Tech Rider

 

 

This technical rider is attached to and made an integral part of the contract and supersedes any previous technical riders.

 

General Requirements:  The Presenter agrees to provide suitable equipment, sufficient time reserved in the performing space, adequately skilled technical and stage personnel for loading in and out and setting up of all company activities, as well as box office, Front of House and janitorial personnel.  The Presenter warrants that the theater will be used solely for company activities during the periods of residency. The evening of work by Molissa Fenley & Dancers usually consists of four pieces.  The performance is usually 1 hour and 45 minutes in length and is performed with one 15-20 minute intermission and two pauses.  Please read through these specifications carefully and address all questions to the technical director, David Moodey.

 

1.  Please provide scale drawings in plan and section view of the theater, and a complete inventory of lighting, sound and soft goods at least six weeks prior to performance.

 

2.  Schedule.  The following is the basic load-in schedule.  The technical director, upon receipt of technical specifications, will provide a schedule specific to the period of residency.  Any modifications must be agreed to by the presenter and Molissa Fenley & Dancers prior to the company’s arrival at the theater.  All lighting and soft goods must be hung and the marley laid before the company arrives.  We may also need to have cues entered in the light board.

3.  Stage size is minimum 30’ deep from plaster line to the last lineset upstage and 40’ wide at proscenium opening.  Stage and rehearsal areas should be clean and warm (70-75 degrees F).  The floor should be swept and mopped before each company rehearsal and performance.  Upon the company’s arrival, the performing space must be clear of all obstructions, including platforms, screens, orchestra shell, etc.

 

4.  Presenter agrees to supply black velour masking to create a minimum of four wings, four black velour borders, a white cyclorama, and a full stage black.  The theater must have a clear, well-lit crossover and running lights off stage. 


5.  The theater must have a sprung floor in good condition covered with a black vinyl/marley dance floor, which covers the entire stage and wings, laid before the company’s arrival.

 

6.     Lighting.  The lighting is a basic booms and overheads dance set up; a specific list of necessary lighting equipment can be provided after Molissa Fenley & Dancers’s Lighting Director examines the theater’s blueprints and current lighting inventory.  The presenter will provide gel and the lighting equipment as specified in the company plot and hookup as well as necessary cable and accessories to hang, circuit and color the light plot.  The company requires a tech table at the center of the house with a designer’s monitor, headset communications and a VOG mic for all technical rehearsals.

 

·       Any and all information regarding lighting and the control system in the theater, including lighting inventory, number of dimmers, and type of light board must be provided at least six weeks prior to performance.

     The presenter will provide a computerized light board that supports soft patching and time fades with a minimum of 125 channels and a dimming system with at least 96 dimmers at 2.4kw.

     The presenter will have the Molissa Fenley & Dancers light plot hung, circuited and colored at the time of the company’s arrival at the theater.  Molissa Fenley & Dancers will provide the light plot two weeks after receiving the theater’s blue prints and lighting inventory.  Substitutions in lighting equipment, color or hanging position must be approved by the Company prior to arrival.

 

Company’s minimum lighting equipment requirements are as follows:

 

1. A minimum of 1 boom at least 12’ high per wing on either side of the stage with secure boom bases and/or ties to the grid.  The following equipment must be available for the booms:

a)     24 – 6x9 1K/575w Ellipsoidal or 36° Source 4

b)     8 – 6x12 1K/575w Ellipsoidal or 26° Source 4

 

2.  The following equipment must be available for the overhead pipes:

a)     24 – 6x12 1K/575w Ellipsoidal or 26° Source 4

b)     36 – 6x9 1K/575w Ellipsoidal or 36° Source 4

c)     12 – 8” Fresnels @ 1k

d)     34 – PAR 64 1k or Source 4 PAR

e)     3 color cyc wash, top and bottom

 

3.  The following equipment must be available for the front of house:

            Sufficient equipment to create two full stage frontlight washes and two box boom washes

 

4.  ACCESSORIES:

4 template holders for lekos/Source 4s

Gel frames for all units

 

 

7.  Sound.  The theater must have a high quality sound system capable of providing playback on CD or Minidisk.

 

·       The mixing console must be able to support one monitor send to onstage speakers for the dancers, and main sends to FOH speakers.  It must also support the stereo inputs (L/R) for the requested playback formats, and one VOG mic to be positioned at an in-house tech table.

·       Loudspeakers:  The FOH sound system must be capable of producing low distortion, full bandwidth response and cover the entire audience area.  There should be four monitors for onstage coverage.

·       Sufficient amplifiers to drive all speakers and EQ for all amplifiers.

·       Microphones: only one VOG mic needed at tech table.

·       Headset communication system between all necessary stations (SM, light board, sound, stage right and left, fly rail) for all performances and technical rehearsals must be provided.

·       Portable CD player for class and rehearsal

 

8.  The lineset schedule is approximately as follows (from US to DS):

9.  The presenter will provide one wardrobe person for an afternoon call on each of the performance days to wash, iron/steam, and prepare the costumes.  Presenter will provide the wardrobe person with necessary equipment for the maintenance of the costumes (including a sewing machine) in the theater.

 

10.  Backstage requirements as follows:

 

·       Presenter must provide a locked, secure space to store the company’s costumes and equipment

·       Secure dressing rooms for 5 women and the choreographer, equipped with a sufficient number of chairs, lighted mirrors, AC outlets, racks and hangers for costumes, and tables for the artists.  All dressing rooms shall be clean and well stocked with soap, tissues, toilet paper and paper towels.

·       Readily accessible toilets and washing/shower facilities with hot and cold running water.

·       Clean towels for each performer for each performance and the dress rehearsal.

·       Office for the company manager with a telephone.

·       Bottled water, juices, hot water for tea/coffee.

·       Access to the dressing rooms whenever the company is in the theater but not less than 21/2 hours prior to dress rehearsal and all performances.

 

11.  Minimum crew size for each performance and technical rehearsals: 5 (light board, sound, stage right, stage left, wardrobe).  The preshow call is 1 1/2 hours prior to the house opening, with the exception of opening night (see schedule above).

 

12.  Failure by the presenter to provide any of the above requested materials, crew, or work calls may result in the delay of curtain time.

 

13.  Presenter will provide the company a rehearsal space/dance studio with a sprung wood floor covered with a marley/vinyl dance floor, minimum size 40’ x 30’.  Total rehearsal time will be determined prior to the company’s arrival at the theater.

 

14.  The presenter agrees to provide local transportation between the airport and hotel for the company (dancers and staff) and between the airport and the theater for any company equipment.  The presenter further agrees to provide local transportation for the company between the hotel and the theater (or other sites) for all rehearsals, performances, and residency activities.

 

15.  The presenter agrees to obtain and pay for any and all local permits, union fees, taxes and other local licenses that may be required for the company to carry out all performances and residency activities covered by this agreement.

 

16.  Presenter shall provide for adequate insurance coverage, including insurance against losses due to fire or theft, and personal liability insurance covering the activities of the residency.  The presenter agrees to indemnify and hold the company harmless from all claims arising in any manner in connection with the performances or other residency activities, except to the extent that such claims may be occasioned by the negligent act(s) of the company.

 

17.  Any changes to this rider must be approved in writing by both the presenter and Molissa Fenley & Dancers well in advance of the company’s arrival at the theater.
